Will all iPhone 15s use the latest generation OLED screens? This year all iPhone 15s will be equipped with OLED panels with latest generation materials. A new supply chain report says all four iPhone 15 models will use the latest generation OLED screens. Of the current iPhone 14 range, only the Pro models have used the latest generation of Samsung technology.
The upcoming Apple Watch band will detect finger movements
For the iPhone 14 range, there were a number of differences in the screens. The most visible of these was, of course, the Dynamic Island of the Pro models compared to the notch in the base and Plus models. Also very visible is the presence of the variable refresh rate, called ProMotion by Apple, on the Pro models which allows you to set the frequency of refresh up to 120 Hz and down to 1 Hz. It also allows you to activate the always-on display function without significantly affecting battery life.
In addition to these features, another important difference between the panels of the standard and Pro models concerns the refinement of the materials used to build the displays. The base model and Plus model of the iPhone 14 are made using Samsung’s 11th generation material set, while the two Pro models use 12th generation.
The Elec reports that all four iPhone 15s this year will use OLED screens featuring the latest set of M12 materials. Samsung will also use the same technology for the next Galaxy Fold.
However, only the Pro models will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistors (TFTs), which allows for variable refresh rate.
Further improvements should then be with the iPhone 16, which will all use the latest technologies in terms of OLED screens.
