The attachment for this lanyard, as it turns out, can also serve as an antenna for the Apple U1 chip, as well as improve tracking through the Find My app.
The display of the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the best ever in the smartphone market
Apple has made several improvements to the second generation AirPods Pro to make their charging case work better with the Find My app.
For example, thanks to the Apple U1 chip, you can use the Precision Finding feature to find a case when it is very close. With a new built-in speaker, the case can beep to make it easier for you to find it. In addition, the case has an attachment for a new lanyard, which is sold separately. As it turned out, the lanyard mount also acts as an antenna.
Inside the case, the mount connects to a Lightning connector that is attached to the motherboard.
The lanyard fastening on the side of the case is not just metal, it has its own hidden task. An insert 4 mm deep and 18 mm long is connected to a metal insert around the Lightning connector. This may be an antenna for improved tracking performance through the Find My app.
It’s also possible that it’s something much simpler. For example, an ordinary wire or a thin metal sheet for grounding an open metal insert. It may be there to prevent ESD damage to internal components.
In any case, this is very smart and inventive on Apple’s part.
