ProMotion technology within two years also on non-Pro iPhones

ProMotion technology also on non-Pro iPhones within two years. Within two years, Apple will offer ProMotion technology on the entire lineup of iPhones and not just on the Pro models.

Apple has problems with demand for Mac

This was reported by Ross Young, co-founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).

ProMotion technology arrived with the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021, offering an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, smoother scrolling, increased responsiveness and fast frame rates when the user needs them and conserves battery life when not needed .

The technology in question remains exclusive to Pro models at the moment. In a tweet, Young indicated a roadmap highlighting various display technologies that we should see on future iPhones. Among the information reported by the analyst specialized in screens, the indication that the low-energy LTPO (low temperature poly-silicon and oxide) displays will also be integrated into standard iPhones starting from 2025, offering the possibility of exploiting ProMotion also on these devices, and automatically adjust the refresh rate up to 120Hz, further improving energy management.

On phones like the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, LTPO technology allows you to drop the refresh rate from 120Hz to just 1Hz, which is useful for the always-on display functionality (the screen is always active) while continuing to show useful information such as the time, widgets and wallpaper. The brightness of the screen dims when the device is locked or left idle allowing it to use several coprocessors of the A16 Bionic chip at the same time to update itself using a minimum amount of energy.

According to Young’s roadmap, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus will offer ProMotion and also the always-on screen. Indiscretions circulated in the past months report that Apple could also integrate the Dynamic Island into non-Pro models on all four models of the lineup starting from the iPhone 15.

In a different post, Young still reports that Apple intends to take advantage of screens with FaceID technology and camera under the screen in the future, something we shouldn’t see soon but within a few years.
