No M3 chip on first 15″ MacBook Air. Barring surprises, the 15-inch MacBook Air will integrate an M2 chip. The upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air will be configurable with two variants of the M2 chip, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The M3 chip will be mass-produced in the second half of the year
In a tweet shared today, Kuo said that he expects the new MacBook Air to come with two M2 chip options with different number of cores, just like the already available 13-inch model.
The 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip that Apple launched last year is available in 8- and 10-core GPU variants, while the 2020 M1 model was available in 7- and 8-core GPU options. The 15-inch MacBook Air is therefore likely to mirror the 13-inch model in terms of chip specs.
Kuo also said the new model will actually be marketed as a 15-inch MacBook Air, rather than via a new product line. The analyst expects the device to reach five to six million units shipped in 2023.
What seems certain is that the 15-inch MacBook Air will not have the M3 chip, which is expected to debut on other models later this year.
