iPhones beat top-of-the-line Androids in repairability

iPhones beat top-of-the-line Androids in repairability. None of the best known and most popular smartphones is very easy to repair, but the iPhone 13 seems to be the easiest to repair yourself.

What if the landscape Home screen returns to iPhone?

This is what emerges from a research by ElectronicsHub, a site that analyzed hundreds of guides dedicated to repairs, examining 228 documents of iFixit, a company that provides specific documentation and sells spare parts to users.

According to reports from ElectronicsHub, the Google Pixel 7 is the most difficult smartphone to repair and the one that requires the most time, with an average of 60.3 minutes for interventions; the easiest to repair is apparently the Motorola Moto G7, with a timing that requires an average of 25 minutes for each intervention.

In any case, Apple conquers 4 positions in the top 10 devices indicated in the ranking of the easiest devices to repair (taking into account intrinsic difficulties and the time required for various interventions).

In fourth place is the iPhone 11 Pro Max, a device for which the repair takes an average of 63.2 minutes; the iPhone 13 follows in fifth place with 67.8 minutes. The iPhone 14 ranks eighth with 47.7 minutes and the iPhone 12 with 72.2 minutes in tenth place.

Apple is placed quite well in this particular classification, taking into account the controversies such as the Right to Repair movement, born to focus on sustainability in the production chain and to encourage manufacturers to respect design and assembly criteria that are easy to repair even from user himself and distribute spare parts and repair instructions.

Since December 2022, Apple has also activated Self Service Repair in Europe, allowing customers who wish to do it themselves to carry out many of the most common repairs for iPhone and Mac. Apple offers access to over 200 different parts and tools, as well as manuals of repair. The program gives users familiar with the intricacies of repairing electronic devices the opportunity to perform their repairs using the same manuals, parts and tools available at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers.

We recall that in the past there have been criticisms of Apple’s Self Service repair service by iFixit; according to the latter, the service offered by Apple actually makes repairs complicated or not very convenient, due to procedures involving prohibitive costs and loss of time.
