The iPhone 12 and this year should have a Lightning connector. In addition, images of the alleged new cable with a braided fabric design have surfaced online. iPhone 12 cable curiosity
Photos of the new Lightning cable that will be bundled with the iPhone 12 have been posted on Twitter. If the photos are genuine (and this is unknown), then on one side of the cable there will be a Lightning connector, and on the other – USB-C instead of USB-A.
The braided fabric design can solve one of the biggest problems with Apple cables – their fragility. It is especially common for cables to break at the ends.
Photos of the alleged USB-C to Lightning cable have already appeared online and they had eight ruthenium-plated silver contacts. These materials resist corrosion better. It looks like the same cable in the new photos. The braided design will make the cables stronger and last longer.
Apple has never had braided cables for the iPhone and iPad before. However, the company does have a braided Thunderbolt Pro cable, a black braided USB-C to Lightning cable bundled with the Mac Pro, and a braided cable for the HomePod.
For the first time, a photo of a braided cable appeared back in July. Switching to a Lightning to USB-C cable means you can use fast charging without buying an additional cable. Of course, if you have the 18W power adapter that comes with the iPad Pro and iPhone 11 Pro.
The iPhone 12 cable doesn’t have a USB-C connector, so now you need to buy an extra cable for fast charging. A powerful power adapter also has to be purchased separately.
Here are some Apple devices that support fast charging:
- iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and newer
- iPad Pro 9-inch (1st generation or later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation or later)
- iPad Pro 10.5-inch
- iPad Air (3rd generation)
- iPad mini (5th generation)
Fast charging charges your smartphone from zero to 50% in just half an hour. Some Android flagships charge even faster, but Apple’s charging tactics are more cautious.
