Among the novelties of watchOS 7, the automatic detection of hand washing. Washing your hands well for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of disease. (especially in some situations that expose you to a greater risk of coming into contact with viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms). How to use the Apple Watch hand washing feature.
Frequent hand washing is especially important when we spend a lot of time in public places, outside of cases, before eating, before eating, when wrapping wounds, without touching, in a sick person, after coughing, in contact with people, etc. Sick, processed garbage, woven raw food and other situations. Apple Watch can play its part in this area too by offering an interesting function never seen in a wearable device. Thanks to the motion sensors, microphone and automatic learning integrated into the watch, it automatically detects the movements and sounds specific to this event. He can then start a 20-second timer (proper hand hygiene requires you to spare no less than this time for this process) and invites the user to continue if he finishes early. Apple Watch can also remind the user to wash their hands when they get home.
How hand washing detection is activated
This feature is available with Apple Watch Series 4 and later models. By default it is disabled; before activating it, make sure you have the latest version of iOS and the latest version of watchOS.
You can activate the option both from the iPhone (from the Watch app) and directly from the watch. From the iPhone, just open the Watch app, select “Hands hygiene” and from here enable the “Hand wash timer” option; it is also possible to activate the “Allow notifications” option to activate a notification that reminds you to wash your hands when you return home.
If instead of the iPhone you want to activate the hand washing detection directly from the Apple Watch, tap the Settings icon, choose “Hand hygiene” and enable the “Hand wash timer” option.
Starting the automatic timer
The timer starts automatically when the sound and motion sensors detect the typical sounds of this activity. (it does not work if you pretend to wash your hands because there is no sound). The device emits feedback when the timer is activated; if you stop before the recommended seconds, the Apple Watch invites you to continue; if the timer is started by mistake, it is obviously possible to cancel the activity.
