For example, if our Mac is connected to the internet via Ethernet, we can share the connection with other computers (Mac, PC, iPhone, Android devices, etc.) via Wi-Fi. Here’s how to do it:
If you are using macOS Monterey or earlier systems
- Open System Preferences, click on “Sharing” and select the “Internet Sharing” item.
- From the “Internet sharing” section, you can select the connection you want to share and with which systems to share it (e.g. share the WiFi connection with computers that use the Ethernet adapter). If you want to turn your Mac into a WiFi hotspot/access point, you can do it from this section as long as your Mac is connected to the network via Ethernet.
Selecting “Ethernet adapter” under “Share your connection from”; the “WiFi” option will appear and the possibility of indicating the SSID (the name of the WiFi network as it will appear to other users), the channel to use, it will be possible to select the security level and set the access password.
If you are using macOS Ventura 13 or later
The features offered are the same as those already seen above. Just open System Settings, select the “General” item and from here click on the “i” to the right of the “Internet Sharing” item. A screen will appear allowing you to select which connection to share and with which computers.
After modifying the parameters according to our needs, it is possible to activate the “Internet Sharing” item. The operating system asks for confirmation that sharing has been activated. After clicking on “Start” the sharing is ready.
