How to increase Apple Watch Ultra battery life to 60 hours? The Apple Watch Ultra has received new power-saving mode settings that can extend battery life up to 60 hours on a single battery charge. This article explains how it works and where to find the new settings.

When Apple introduced the Apple Watch Ultra in September, one of its biggest highlights was the best battery life of any Apple Watch, capable of up to 36 hours of normal use. Considering that other Apple Watch models officially last up to 18 hours (“all day long”) with normal use, this is a pretty significant change.
While watchOS 9 introduced a new Power Saving Mode for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models that also offers up to 36 hours of battery life, Apple has promised to add additional settings for Apple Watch Ultra Power Saving Mode in the fall that will further extend battery life and allow hours to run up to 60 hours.
Apple has since released watchOS 9.1, and the company has delivered on its promise by allowing Ultra owners to extend their watch’s battery life. We’ll show you how to turn on advanced power saving mode later in the guide, but first you need to make sure your Apple Watch Ultra is updated to watchOS 9.1 or later.
- In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to
- General -> Software Update. If you haven’t updated to watchOS 9.1 yet, wait for the update prompt, then click Download and Install. Make sure your Apple Watch is at least 50% charged and plugged into a charger while the update process completes.
How to achieve 60 hours of Apple Watch Ultra battery life?
To achieve the extended battery life of your Apple Watch Ultra, you must have the “Less GPS and heart rate readings” option enabled. Here’s how to turn it on. (Note that this setting is also available on the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE second generation, but Apple hasn’t said it will extend the battery life of these models beyond the 36 hours offered by the main power saving mode.)
- Launch the Settings app on your Apple Watch Ultra.
- Scroll down and click Workout.
- Turn on the switch next to Power Saving Mode.
- At the bottom, under “In power saving mode,” turn on the toggle next to “Less GPS and heart rate readings.”
Apple says that while exercising in Power Saving Mode, the Always On display feature, background heart rate and blood oxygen measurements, and heart rate notifications will be turned off. Other notifications may be delayed, emergency alerts may not be received, and some cellular and Wi-Fi networks may be restricted. Heart rate readings are reduced to once per minute, while GPS readings are reduced to once every two minutes, and alerts and split and segment tracking are turned off. In other words, this means that in order to get the full 60 hours of battery life, you will also need to turn on power saving mode outside of workouts.

With these settings, Apple Watch Ultra users can count on an increase in battery life of smart watches “up to” 60 hours. According to Apple, this figure is based on 15 hours of training, 600+ time checks, 35 minutes of app usage, 3 minutes of talking, and 15 hours of sleep tracking over a 60-hour period.
