How to change macOS Monterey login screen wallpaper? macOS does not offer an option to change the default image that appears as a background on the login screen (the one that appears when the Mac computer is locked); there are options to show a message (useful for viewing any information relating to users’ attempts to log in, for example information for guest users or providing contact information for a lost computer), but there is not – standard – in the system an option to change the default screen background.

How to change the login image in macOS Monterey?
To change the image that appears in the macOS Monterey login window, follow this procedure:
1) The first step is to identify the image of your interest (the one that will become the default background of macOS Monterey at login). It is not essential but it is good to look for a photo with the same size (width and height) as the resolution of your screen; however, even if you do not find a photo with the exact resolution, you can adapt it (resample it) using the Preview application (the “Adjust Size” item in the “Tools” menu). To find out the exact resolution of your display, select “About this Mac” from the Apple menu, click on “System Report”, in the section on the left select “Graphics / Monitor”: in the section on the right, details on the monitor type and resolution supported.
2) Save the image of your interest with the name “lockscreen.png” (exactly with this name).
3) In the Finder select the “Go” menu, select the item “Go to the Catrtella”, type:
/ Library / Caches /
and press Enter
4) You should see various folders, including the “Desktop Pictures” folder (if not, create it); inside this last folder you should see one or more subfolders with a long name (technically the UUID corresponding to the account). If your Mac is managed by multiple users, you may have a hard time figuring out which folder to choose. To find out which UUID we are interested in, open System Preferences, select “Users and Groups”, unlock the padlock at the bottom left, click with the right mouse button (or equivalent combination with the trackpad) on the username in the left column and choose “Advanced Options”: a window will be shown with technical details about the account, including the UUID.
Once you understand which UUID you are interested in and therefore the folder in which to place the image, just copy the “lockscreen.png” file into its reference folder (for safety, first make a copy of the file already present: if necessary you can restore it as default).
5) Now you have to restart the Mac (Apple menu> “Restart”). The selected image will be the same both in the window before login, and as the Desktop after login.
