We are talking about the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra, whose measures were recently awaited by journalist Mark Gurman and now identified by a website.
The prices of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, all the hypotheses among rumors and clues
The change, if we want to give credit to what the web page reports, would be particularly evident compared to what happened in the past, particularly in terms of weight and thickness. You can perceive it by scrolling through the differences between the measurements that we publish in the tables below which, for comparison, also includes the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro.
iPhone 15 Pro, thicker but lighter
For the thickness iPhone 15 Pro will measure 8.25mm. iPhone 14 Pro is 7.85mm thick. We are talking about an increase of 5%. If you go backwards you notice that Apple has progressively increased this dimensional factor in the Pro range. iPhone 12 Pro was 7.4 mm thick iPhone 13 Pro 7.65. We are faced with a not insignificant increase of over 11% in three years.
It must also be said that the iPhone 15 Pro, if the measurements are confirmed, could be the second thickest iPhone ever. Only the old one is worse (iPhone XR which measured 83mm. But it was the entry level model; iPhone XS was 7.7mm thick.
While we don’t have any devices in hand at the moment, we know that this advance in size has essentially been the result of the increase in lens protrusion and the related increase in sensor size that requires a greater distance between the lens and the sensor itself. Since this year, however, the iPhone 15 Pro camera shouldn’t be different from that of the iPhone 14 Pro, it is likely that the choice of materials will have an impact, which has also led to a change in shape.
It is also interesting to note that the other dimensions also change modestly, reducing width and length to those of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 14 Pro had in fact grown by one millimeter. iPhone 15 Ultra could even be the smallest 6.7 inches ever.
Despite a disadvantage, the thickness, the iPhone 15 Pro would have an advantage over its predecessors: the weight. With 188 grams, compared to 206 on the iPhone 14 Pro, approximately 9% less and as heavy as the iPhone 13 Pro. Differences that are almost entirely also reflected in the comparison between the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Ultra.
What user experience?
All this should give rise to an overall better user experience than the iPhone 14 Pro. The increase in thickness should negatively impact the sensation less than the weight does on the positive front. This in particular for iPhone 15 Ultra. With its 221 grams it will not only weigh less than the iPhone 14 Pro but also less than the iPhone 11 Pro Max (226 grams) which was made of aluminum and not steel like the last three models.
iPhone 15 versus iPhone 14
Speaking of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus compared to previous models, the differences would be so minimal that the two devices could be considered virtually identical. This is proof that we are faced with a device that changes little from a structural point of view and perhaps even internally.
