Available watchOS 9.1 for Apple Watch. Apple has released the update to watchOS 9.1, an important update of watchOS 9, the Apple Watch operating system officially presented in September 2022.

watchOS 9.1 arrives 42 days after the release of watchOS 9, an update that saw the arrival of new watch faces, an optimized Training app, sleep phases, a redesigned Compass app and a new Medicines app.
In the release notes, Apple explains that the update “includes improvements, bug fixes and important security updates”.
Here are the full release notes:
- Battery life can be extended during walking, running and trekking workouts with the ability to limit heart rate and GPS measurements on Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) and Apple Watch Ultra.
- Music tracks can be downloaded when Apple Watch is not charging via Wi ‑ Fi or cellular.
- Compatibility with Matter, the new connectivity standard for smart home automation, allows a wide range of accessories from different ecosystems to work in harmony.
The update also includes bug fixes for Apple Watch:
- Voice feedback on average pace during outdoor runs could be wrong.
- The probability of rain shown in the Weather app may not coincide with those displayed on the iPhone for the current position.
- The complication of hourly forecasts could indicate hours in the morning (AM) instead of those in the afternoon (PM).
- The duration displayed during muscle strengthening workouts may not advance for some users.
- VoiceOver might not announce the app name before reading notifications when several were received at the same time.
How to upgrade to watchOS 9.1?
To update watchOS, open the Watch app on the iPhone, select General and from here “Software update”. From watchOS 6 it is possible to update directly on Apple Watch: the smartwatch must be connected to WiFi, on Apple Watch the Settings app is opened from here you tap General> Software update. If a software update is available, just tap Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
While the update is complete, leave the Apple Watch on the charger. Do not restart the iPhone or Apple Watch and do not exit the Apple Watch app. At the end of the update, the Apple Watch will restart automatically.
