Apple unveils MacBook Pro M2 Pro and Max with battery life never seen before on Mac. As widely anticipated, Apple announces the new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros with Apple Silicon M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, the new generation of Apple professional chips that offer to users more performance, more energy efficiency and longer autonomy.
Many users are still facing various iOS 16 bugs after so many months
The Cupertino giant introduces the new M2 Pro and M2 Max as the “world’s most powerful and efficient chip for a pro laptop”: the laptop handles the most demanding tasks such as rendering effects, which is up to six times faster than to the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and color grading, which is up to twice as fast.
Thanks to the energy efficiency of the Apple chip, the autonomy of MacBook Pro is the best ever seen on Mac: up to 22 hours according to data declared by Apple, usually very reliable if not even lower than real performance. As anticipated, the new MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 6E, which is up to two times faster than the previous generation, allowing for superior connectivity, and also advanced HDMI, which supports 8K displays for the first time.
With up to 96GB of unified memory in the M2 Max chip model, content creators can work with large scenes that, according to Apple, portable Windows PCs can’t even open.
The MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display, several connectivity options, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a six-speaker audio system and professional-quality microphones. The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro is available to order starting today and will be available Tuesday, January 24.
M2 Pro and M2 Max, energy-efficient performance
With the M2 Pro and M2 Max, MacBook Pro can transform professional workflows in everything from art to science to app development. Users coming from an Intel-based Mac model will see even more impressive improvements in performance, battery life, connectivity and overall productivity. MacBook Pro maintains high performance both when connected to the power adapter and on battery only.
MacBook Pro with M2 Pro has a 10-core or 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, for up to 20 percent faster performance than the M1 Pro chip. With 200 GBps of memory bandwidth unified memory, double that of the M2 chip, and up to 32GB of unified memory, users are able to handle large projects and run several professional apps simultaneously at high speeds.
The latest generation GPU with up to 19 cores delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance, while the Neural Engine is 40% faster in machine learning tasks such as video analysis and image processing. The powerful media engine in M2 Pro handles the most popular video codecs, dramatically accelerating video playback and encoding with minimal power consumption.
Performance and improvements of MacBook Pro with M2 Pro chip:
- Rendering titles and animations in Motion is up to 80 percent snappier than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and up to 20 percent faster than the previous generation.
- Compiling code in Xcode is up to 2.5x faster1 than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and nearly 25% faster5 than the previous generation.
- Image processing in Adobe Photoshop is up to 80% faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and up to 40% faster5 than the previous generation.
MacBook Pro with M2 Max chip
MacBook Pro with M2 Max pushes workflows to the limit with up to a significantly larger 38-core GPU and up to 30% better graphics performance than the M1 Max chip, and also includes 400 GBps of unified memory bandwidth, the double that of the M2 Pro chip. With up to 96GB of unified memory, MacBook Pro once again pushes the limits of graphics memory on a laptop, enabling graphics-intensive workflows such as scene creation with 3D geometry and extreme textures or the photomerge of large panoramic images.
M2 Max features a next-generation 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores that deliver up to 20% higher performance than the M1 Max chip and a more powerful media engine than the M2 Pro chip. with double the ProRes acceleration to speed up playback and transcoding of content.
Performance and improvements of MacBook Pro with M2 Max chip
- Effects rendering in Cinema 4D is up to six times faster1 than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and up to 30 percent faster6 than the previous generation.
- Color grading in DaVinci Resolve is up to two times faster1 than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro model, and up to 30 percent faster6 than the previous generation.
Improved connectivity
MacBook Pro now supports Wi-Fi 6E for faster wireless connectivity as well as a more advanced HDMI interface, which supports 8K displays up to 60Hz and 4K displays up to 240Hz. These new capabilities further expand the versatile connectivity options already built into MacBook Pro, such as three Thunderbolt 4 ports for high-speed connections to peripherals, an SDXC card slot and a MagSafe 3 charging port.
