Apple prepares for devices with Bluetooth 5.2 and AirPods Pro with LE Audio. Apple appears to be preparing for future devices with Bluetooth 5.2 support, according to a filing found in the Bluetooth SIG product database earlier this month. Among other possibilities, this could serve as proof of future AirPods Pro with LE Audio support.
Apple iPhone 14 Features, Price and Release Date
Apple’s filing refers to a Bluetooth 5.3 host subsystem which is likely to be destined for future products. However, the repository probably refers to Bluetooth 5.2, as the Bluetooth versions listed in Apple documents found in this database often have a higher version number than is actually implemented on a device, for unclear reasons.
For example, Beats Studio Buds are listed with Bluetooth 5.3, but actually support Bluetooth 5.2, while many iPhone and iPad models are listed with Bluetooth 5.1, despite supporting Bluetooth 5.0.
Confusion of version numbers aside, the fact that Apple is working on support for Bluetooth 5.2 could be seen as yet another clue for AirPods Pro with LE Audio support, with several improvements to wireless audio streaming.
LE Audio is part of the Bluetooth LE low energy standard. According to The Verge, the benefits of LE Audio for wireless headphones like AirPods could include better audio quality, longer battery life, the ability to connect more than two pairs of AirPods to a single iPhone, and the ability for each and every single left AirPod and right to have your own Bluetooth connection to an iPhone to prevent desynchronization during audio playback.
In July, the Bluetooth SIG predicted that the availability of products with support for LE Audio will increase by the end of 2022. Apple is expected to launch second-generation AirPods Pro later this year, but whether they will support Bluetooth 5.2 or LE Audio remains to be seen. . Still, it remains to be seen whether Apple will add LE Audio support to the Beats Studio Buds with a firmware update as the earbuds already support Bluetooth 5.2.
