Apple is testing 3D printing for the production of Apple Watch. Corroborating a rumor previously reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg says that Apple is testing 3D printing for future-generation Apple Watch chassis.
2023 the fall of smartphones, Android declines, iPhone grows
The indiscretion, as written above, is not new, and also in July 2023 it was reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, according to whom Apple would use 3D printing to create titanium mechanical parts for the future Apple Watch Ulta. Again according to the analyst, Apple’s objective is to partially replace traditional CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) machinery, machine tools whose movements are controlled by an electronic device integrated into the machine (called “numerical control”) by cutting the material to fit the design.
The always well-informed Mark Gurman of Bloomberg corroborates the previous indiscretion, reporting however that the material that Apple works with 3D printing is stainless steel and not titanium; Bloomberg does not exclude the possible processing of titanium with 3D printing but generically reports tests with stainless steel of the Apple Watch Series 9.
Since the Apple Watch Series 9 will most likely be presented on September 12, 2023, on the occasion of the event that also includes the launch of the new iPhones, it is unlikely that they are still doing experiments in Cupertino (the Apple Watch Series 9 chassis are already been established for some time); it is more likely that in Cupertino they are carrying out tests on the possible use of 3D printing with future products.
