As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, Apple is preparing to launch a USB-C case for AirPods Pro, presumably alongside the launch of the iPhone 15 range which will switch from Lightning to USB-C ports this year.
Gurman says Apple is also testing a new hearing test feature, in addition to the other AirPods features expected in iOS 17 and announced by Apple at WWDC.
The hearing test feature will reportedly play different tones in your ear. Based on your responses, it will be able to screen you for possible hearing problems.
The company is working on a new hearing test feature that will play different tones and sounds to allow AirPods to determine how well a person can hear. The idea is to help users check for hearing problems, not unlike how the ECG feature checks for heart problems.
Additionally, Gurman says Apple is working on adding more health sensors to the AirPods hardware, such as the ability to check body temperature through the ear canal. This feature could come with the AirPods Pro released in 2024.
Apple has already announced that AirPods Pro will get an Adaptive Audio feature later this year, which dynamically switches between Transparency and Noise Canceling modes depending on ambient audio.
