Though previous studies have already touched upon the materials and the inherent intricacy in crafting these cables, Lumafield’s examination offers a fresh perspective. By harnessing the Neptune scanner, an industrial-grade CT scanning technology, they managed to generate a detailed 3D portrayal of both the outer and inner facets of the cable. This approach enables a visualization of otherwise hidden features.

One key revelation from the scan was Apple’s implementation of a 9-layer PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) alongside all 24 connector pins.

In addition to the advanced internal engineering, Apple’s Thunderbolt “Pro” cables are lauded for their compatibility with DisplayPort (HBR3) video devices and charging capabilities of up to 100W. The external black braided sheathing enhances the cable’s lifespan while ensuring a tangle-free experience.
