With Mac, Apple is the fourth PC manufacturer in the world, third in the USA. Research firms IDC and Canalys both reported declining PC sales, but Apple’s Macs are outperforming rivals’ numbers Windows PCs: Apple’s Mac is the third largest computer maker in the world, according to Gartner data USA and fourth brand in the world.
Apple services are growing less than they could
A new report from Gartner agrees with what IDC and Canalys reported, although some details differ. According to Gartner, worldwide PC shipments totaled 65.3 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, down 28.5% from the same period a year earlier. We are practically facing the quarter with the most dramatic decline for the PC market from the mid-1990s to today. In the past year, PC shipments are reported to be 286.2 million units, a 16.2% decrease from 2021.
According to Gartner, worldwide Mac sales went from 7.8 million in the first quarter of 2022 to 7 million in the fourth quarter of 2022, a decline of just over 10%, a much smaller decline than all the other top brands. For this reason, although Macs shipped are lower than in the same period of 2021, Apple’s Mac market share has nevertheless grown, rising globally from 8.6% to 10.7% in the fourth quarter , “merit” of the lost sales of other brands.
Global Lenovo PC sales fell 28.6% annually; HP’s 29.1% year-over-year, and Dell’s 37%. According to Gartner data, in the USA the multinational from Cupertino now boasts a market share of 17.2%; sold approximately 2.9 million Macs in the fourth quarter, down 3.1% from the same period last year.
Two brands precede Apple in the ranking of the PC market in the USA: in first place we find HP with 26.8% market share, followed by Dell in second place with 23.4%. It should be noted that Gartner does not include iPads among the devices it considers in general computer shipments.
Apple will present financial results for the first quarter of 2023 on Thursday, February 2, which for the company corresponds to the last three months of 2022.
