iOS 16.1, some users complain about Wi-Fi problems
If you work with multiple applications at a time, Stage Manager can be used to easily switch between apps and documents. It’s easy to set up, but it’s a big change from the interface we’re used to on the Mac.
How to use Stage Manager to organize apps in macOS 13 Ventura?
You can activate / deactivate Stage Manager from the Control Center, but you can also activate and customize it in the System Settings. That’s how.
Stage Manager in System Settings
- Open System Settings and select Desktop and Dock in the left column
- In the Windows and apps section, scroll down until you find the Stage Manager entry
- Click on the switch to activate / deactivate Stage Manager
- When you activate it for the first time, a pop-up window explains what Stage Manager does: click the Activate Stage Manager button to confirm activation.
How to customize Stage Manager?
Click Customize to change the way Stage Manager is displayed. There are three settings to choose from:
Recent apps: See the thumbnails on the left side of the screen. Deactivating it will hide the thumbnails and you will have to move the pointer to the left side of the display to make them appear.
Desktop Items: Show your Mac’s storage devices, all files saved on your desktop, etc.
Show windows from an application: this is useful for an app with multiple windows open. There are two options here: All at once, which shows all the app windows stacked on the screen at the same time, and One at a time, which displays only one window from the app.
How Stage Manager works
On the left side of the screen, the apps are sorted as thumbnails. When you start the first app or you only have one app open, it is active on the screen and there is no thumbnail. That app becomes a thumbnail when you start another app. By launching multiple apps, multiple thumbnails are created up to a maximum of five. When there are more than five apps open, the most recently used apps will appear as thumbnails – if you close one of these apps, one of the apps not shown takes its place in the thumbnail row.
Create groups with Stage Manager
You can create groups of windows that merge for your workflow on Stage Manager. For example, if you’re writing a document, you can open the Pages, Safari, Dictionary, and Notes apps, and you can group them by dragging each thumbnail to the center of the screen. When all windows are on the screen, click on a thumbnail in the Stage Manager and a group of apps on the screen is created automatically. Then, when you click on the group’s thumbnail, the app windows appear on the screen.
How to hide the thumbnails of recent Stage Manager applications?
Stage Manager can be set up so that thumbnails automatically hide on the left side of the display instead of always appearing on the screen. To do this, simply open the System Settings and go to the Desktop and Dock> Stage Manager> Customize> and disable the Recent Applications button.
