Wet iPhone – will rice help? An unexpected answer from experts. It is widely believed among smartphone users that after contact of a mobile device with water, it should be put in rice to dry. Does rice really help save a drowned iPhone, or any other smartphone? The experts have answered this frequently asked question, putting an end to the many discussions once and for all.
Wet iPhone – will rice help? Not!
IFixit has warned smartphone users against using rice as an iPhone drying agent. Rice not only does not help the drying of smartphones in any way, but it can completely ditch the device after contact with water.
When a person puts their drowned smartphone in rice, they feel that they have done something to save the gadget. But the only thing he makes is a mistake. Sometimes a fatal mistake – it all depends on the intensity of the iPhone’s acquaintance with rice (many literally bury their smartphone in it).
Rice has no beneficial effect on water-damaged contacts. Moreover, it is rice that can cause a complete breakdown of the smartphone.
The image below shows the contacts of the iPhone board after being dried in rice. With this motherboard, the wet iPhone will never start again – it will not be possible to restore it after this.
But how so? Rice helped dry my iPhone!
Many users remain faithful to rice, as earlier drying in it “helped” save the smartphone after contact with water. However, this is just a coincidence – the rice did not in any way affect the fact that the contacts of the smartphone dried out. As well, a water-damaged device could be wrapped in toilet paper and then claimed that the paper saved the gadget.
The contacts dried out on their own, without the help of rice.
How do you dry your iPhone then?
There is no secret way to dry water damaged smartphones. Neither rice, nor buckwheat, nor other cereals will help with this.
The only sure way is to disassemble the smartphone, remove all visible water, ideally, place the motherboard in alcohol after removing the water and traces of corrosion.
If you cannot disassemble your smartphone here and now, then you should immediately contact the nearest service center. In this case, the chances of salvation are maximum. You can just do nothing – there is a chance that the contacts will dry out, but this, of course, is a lottery. If you put your smartphone in rice, then the chances of restoring the device’s performance will only decrease.
It is important to note that even if your smartphone “came to life” after contact with water, it is highly recommended to take it to a service center in the future. The contacts have dried out, but the corrosion has not gone anywhere. At one point, it is she who can cause the sudden death of a smartphone.
