Apple Watch, how does energy saving work and what does it turn off? With watchOS 9 will arrive (with an update) the power saving mode that reduces the consumption of Apple Watch by extending its battery life. But how is it activated and what is it that turns off? The question is interesting because this kind of device is designed to be worn as long as possible, even when sleeping, and historically the battery is one of the Achilles heels of Apple’s smartwatch.
iOS 16 lets you remove security updates that are automatically installed on your iPhone
Especially if you travel and forget the charger at home, being able to finish the journey without having a “dead” device on your wrist can be decisive, so this mode, expected and desired, now falls flat as it aims to reduce the energy consumption of the watch allowing it to be used for a longer period of time.
Energy saving mode, what it does
According to information provided by Apple, Apple Watch’s Energy Saver mode disables most of the features deemed secondary, leaving only the main ones active. Specifically, it turns off heart rate monitoring in the background, and consequently also skips the notifications related to the detection of irregularities in the heart rhythm. It also turns off saturation monitoring and workout reminders.
And if iPhone is not nearby, it also turns off Wi-Fi and cellular connection, and therefore also the ability to receive notifications of incoming calls on the phone. In addition, the system also acts on the performance of the clock, which will be slower when initiating a phone call; the updating of apps and complications then occurs less frequently and even Siri can take longer to process a request. Activating this mode could also result in less fluidity for some animations and for scrolling within the interface.
How to activate power saving mode on Apple Watch
Now, how do you turn on power saving on Apple Watch? As mentioned, watchOS version 9 must first be installed. At that point, all you have to do is scroll up on the display to view the Control Center, then touch the button marked with the battery percentage sign to activate it. Alternatively, you can also go to Settings> Battery by turning on the relative energy saving button.
Those who want can also set the automatic deactivation of the energy saving mode after a certain number of days (in this case it will not automatically deactivate when the battery reaches 80% during charging) and you can decide to activate it automatically in the when the battery level drops below 10%. Once activated, it will be recognized by the fact that the clearly visible icon of a yellow circle is shown on the screen at the top right and as a result of this the battery indicator in the Control Center is also colored with the same shade.
